Darryll King has won over 50 New Zealand Championships during his 25 years of motocross racing. He has finished 2nd in the  1997 and 1998 World 500cc Motocross Championship. DK retired from Professional motocross late in 2007.

DK rides for fun and picks races to compete against the younger riders. He finds himself flat out with MXDK motocross training and running the Subway Yamaha motocross team here in New Zealand.

DK set his sights on returning to Europe  this year to contest the 2009 World Veteran Motocross cup. After racing the first two rounds in Italy and Holland and having one of the fastest lap times in qualifying DK found it hard to complete the races after stirring up some old injuries.
" I found it a real challenge to travel over from NZ for each of the rounds and i was not thinking clearly enough while i was racing.  To do the Championship properly i need to be living in Europe full time and this is not possible at this time of my life" DK said.

DK says "My greatest memories from racing the World Championships from 1989 to 2000 were the people I met and the fantastic countries we travelled to. Sweden and Austria are my two favourite countries, the scenery is unreal and the people real special.
Racing the 500cc Grand Prixs was an amazing experience, hanging out on Saturday night after qualifying, it was like everyone was from the same family. I have heard the world Championships have changed alot and the good times are in the past. Dave Thorpe, Andre Malherbe, Jacky Martens and Carla were my childhood heros. Being able to race with them was just incredible. I worked on building myself into a rider who had qualities of all the top riders. Finally after 3 years of racing Grand Prixs it all clicked and I started my journey towards winning Grand Prixs. Thanks to all you motocross legends , you gave me the inspiration and helped me to live a dream of becoming World MX champion"

"The most memorable Grand Prix was winning the Namur Grand Prix in Belgium. Standing on the podium that day and hearing the New Zealand Anthem was amazing. I was amazed at how great it was to win the Belgium Grand Prix at Namur. The memories from this race will live with me forever. Thanks Namur for being kind to me over the years and the many fans who cheered me on. It was the most challenging track on this planet and it kept me on my toes"

Darryll and his wife Darlene returned home at the end of 2000 and started a family along with life back in New Zealand.

From 2001 to 2007 DK raced for CDR Nokia Yamaha in Australia. The team was super professional and everyone within the team wanted to win. " This was some the best years of my racing career. Craig Dack and his team were fantastic to work with and i have built a lifelong friendship with the guys" DK said.

DK started his own Yamaha backed Subway Yamaha motocross team in 2005.  The Subway Yamaha Motocross team won all three National Motocross Championships in 2006. The team has won numerous national tittles in New Zealand since then and for the future will harness young Yamaha riders who want to someday be a future Champion over seas.
