MXDK Motocross training kicks off again!

What to go faster, straighter, safer and with more style? Want to win trophies and titles?
Multiple New Zealand and Australian motocross champion Darryll King is prepared to give up some of his many secrets and, over the coming weeks and months, his special Yamaha Motocross Team coaching schools will be conducted with the aim of up-skilling Kiwi riders of all ages and abilities.

The 41-year-old King, also a two-time former world No.2 on the 500cc motocross scene, has decided to offer courses this year timed specifically to assist riders preparing for several New Zealand championship events.

“We will run between eight and 10 courses between now and the end of December, including a camp weekend for veterans.

“The veterans’ motocross camp is to help riders get ready for the New Zealand Veterans’ Motocross Championships in Auckland at the end of September and we will also run a course especially for mini riders (aged from as young as five) ahead of their nationals, set for Huntly in November.

“The veterans’ camp is at a really cool facility south of Matamata and includes a TT type circuit in a crop paddock.”

Hamilton’s King and his younger brother Damien, the national 125cc motocross champion, will also both race the national veterans’ championships at the end of September and are aware that the skills they pass on in the training camp could well be used against them on the race track.

“I certainly hope they are, I expect every rider to improve their speed and skills at these training events” said King.

The general training schools will be held at popular venues between Whangarei and Dunedin and, aside from the courses specially targeted at the youngest or oldest age groups, are geared to suit riders of all ages and abilities.

DK wins Australia Vets Championship

Yamaha continued its stellar 2010 motocross season taking two Australian Veteran’s Motocross Championship over the weekend.

Held in conjunction with the final round of the Rockstar MX Nationals, Cameron Taylor on board his Geoff Taylor YZ250, took the 35- 39 years class while New Zealand warrior Darryl King won the over 40s division.

Darryl King proved that he is man of steel after overcoming a huge crash that decimated his bike and body on Saturday to return to the track and win the Over 40 Vets class on Sunday. King high-sided his YZ450F in a fall on Saturday and had servere pain and bruising in his legs and neck.

But after a quick ocean dip, King was back at the track Sunday morning straightening out his bike and preparing to hit the track. Like Taylor, he showed plenty of class to dominate the old timers division and won all three motos in convincing fashion.

“That crash on Saturday really took the wind out of me, but I went down to the ocean and just stood around in the surf and it felt much better. Modern bikes have so much power that you really have to respect them or things can get nasty in a hurry.”

“I would like to thank Ray Howard at Yamaha and the Yamaha Under 19 team for their support whilst I have been in Australia this year. They have made my life pretty easy over here and also to WEM for running the Vets classes,” King said.

DK'S CHANGE TO ALPINESTAR GEAR AND PROTECTION LINEUP

DK and Damian to use Alpinestar Protection gear

"As everyone knows I have been involved with the Leatt neck brace right from the start here in New Zealand. Protection for me is number one when racing motocross.
I have had my injuries from not wearing the right protection and now when I ride, I make sure and wear all the equipment I have in my gear bag!
I had a fantastic opportunity to work with Alpinestars both in New Zealand and internationally as well."

Alpinestars are the leader in protection for motorcycling and I could not turn down this excellent chance to help development new protection products for them and also use there fantastic Bionic neck brace and A10 Chest protector.

I will no longer be wearing Leatt brace or distributing the brace.  I would like to say thank you to Leatt for there support and Paris and Sue for there excellent work here in New Zealand.

I have worn Tech 8 boots for most of my professional career and have recently changed boots to the latest model A star Tech 8. The new boot offers more flexibility, a lighter weight with the same protection. The bottom line I am even more protected than ever before and I might even be able to keep racing as a pro for a few more years yet.

Working closely with Alpinestars and Crown Kiwi here in New Zealand will mean all our race team riders Damian King and Hayden Clarke will be better protected and able to race every weekend at the highest level.

I am really excited about this new challenge!
